The Medieval Settlement of Vathia in the Peloponnese

Vathia is situated in Mani, in the prefecture of Laconia in the Peloponnese. It is perhaps the most photographed settlement of Mani.

Ruined battle towers stand as if in battle formation. Old ruins that carry stories of valor and battles against conquerors as well as perennial vendettas.

The settlement is contradictory. On the one hand, one can see the impressive fortified architecture and on the other ruins. It looks like it's haunted. But if you walk through its narrow streets, some door will open and some of the locals will appear to greet you.

So when you find yourself in the area, don't forget to stop and wander around the settlement. Vathia is an open museum of history and traditional architecture that will leave you speechless!
